In a new recruitment policy, Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has revealed three factors they are addressing that have let them down in the past.

Mentality

Chiefs struggled with building the right team spirit, especially last season, with critics pointing out that the players at the club are not the right quality to bring back the winning days.

However, the issue appeared to be right mentality lacking among the players and Amakhosi, in addressing the matter, roped in head coach Nasreddine, who has been tasked with changing the mindset of players at the club.

Culture

Amakhosi had a setback of allegations of ill-discipline in the camp and have seemingly took a strong stance against a bad culture within the squad, after goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who faced the club's disciplinary committee and was suspended for breaking the code of conduct, was not retained within the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Character

Chiefs have been lacking a true leader on the field, who could lead by example and influence the group dynamic, having lost senior players over the last few seasons.

In lacking character as a result, players seemingly struggled to inspire confidence whenever things are not going their way.

According to Motaung Jr, new signing Inacio Miguel, represents all these qualities they are looking for, to put to an end what has derailed them in the past.

"Miguel is a top individual, before I start about his qualities, I think the step we're taking, we're trying to go, we spoke about what are some of the things that led to where we are [not winning trophies]," Motaung Jr said on 947's MSW.

"Mentality, culture [and] character. If you look at him, apart from the attributes on the field, apart from the fact that he's a serial winner with Petro, spent time in Europe, he's been with Braga before.

"He's a leader, we wanted not only just the footballing attributes but also the attributes that are going to contribute to a winning team and he's a serial winner," Motaung Jr added.
