Kenan Medic, the man responsible for the look of PUMA's latest sensation, the PUMA Ultra 5 boot, gave Soccer Laduma an incredible insight behind the thinking that went into the worldwide phenomenon.

The boot, which was released by PUMA in July this year has landed with great acclaim with both male and female players across the globe, as the line also features a women's Fit with a slimmer design, tailored to the anatomy of a woman's foot.

Soccer Laduma recently spoke to Medic, who for the most part is responsible for the look of the boot.

He revealed that the Formula1 was the nucleus on which the boot was designed, as they hope to give players the same look and feel that a driver of a well-balanced and grounded F1 car would have.

"So, this project basically kicked off from innovation. They prepared the tooling plate and then with the outsole. We wanted to see what can we now develop via design language and try to explore a design language, we could fit a type of mentality which is an ultra player," he told the Siya crew at the PUMA ultra event in Milan.

"So because the tooling was done with such a nice precision, it was also inspired by the F1 car. We looked at the car details, we looked at the car machine itself and it's always meant as the fastest vehicle on the on ground. Therefore, we were like, let's make this shoe have to have the fastest visual ever. Everything was inspired by F1 cars and basically, how can we take delivery.

"The car is fast because it has a downforce which keeps it going through corners. Therefore we have also like a lock down cage which keeps players locked onto the pitch.  The shoe is really minimal because the idea is that you're always focused on the line gesture," he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Teko Modise, who was left impressed after testing out the boot.

"It's a lighter boot. We always knew that in football things were always going to evolve as the game evolves. And the way brands make boots, they make them lighter for certain players in certain positions. Ultra was made for fast players, wingers and it's a bit lighter and I enjoyed wearing it as well. It's very comfortable and I enjoyed using it today," Modise added.
