African Outfit Announces Squad To Face Bafana At Orlando

The African side Bafana Bafana are set to open their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign against have announced their final squad for the Orlando Stadium clash.

The road to African football's biggest spectacle begins next week as 48 nations will be looking to book their flight to north Africa come December 2025.

One of those nations is Uganda, who will be looking to make it to their first AFCON since 2019, and their journey will begin in Soweto when they take on Hugo Broos' charges in their opening Group K clash.

The Cranes have already begun preparations for the clash, with head coach Paul Put announcing his 28-man squad set to take on the 1996 African champions as well as Congo-Brazzaville in their opening two matches of the qualifiers.

Included are two players who ply their trade in the Premier Soccer League, with Golden Arrows goalkeeper Isima Watenga and Venda FC shot-stopper Charles Lukwago forming part of the east African contingent that will be looking to gain their first-ever win over South Africa.

According to a statement released by the Federation of Ugandan Football Associations, the 98th-ranked team in the world will make their way to South Africa as early as 31 August in order to commence their preparations for the match.

Interestingly, Broos' first match in charge of Bafana came against Uganda, when an Evidence Makgopa brace and a further goal from Bongokuhle Hlongwane earned the Belgian a 3-2 victory.
