Goss On Downs Departure: 'I Thought It Would Be Permanent'

Goalkeeper Ricardo Goss has admitted that he thought he'd leave Mamelodi Sundowns on a permanent deal, but reveals that there were some 'technicalities'.

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper joined Sundowns for the start of pre-season at Chloorkop a few weeks ago, but rejoined SuperSport United on a loan deal for the season.

His previous deal with Matsatsantsa was a two-season loan contract and he was able to not only claim his spot as the number one shot-stopper for the club, but was also a regular in the Bafana squad for key matches under head coach Hugo Broos.

"There were technicalities that I am not aware of, but I think there was a time when I thought it would be permanent. I am not sure what happened because I also feel like the deal took a bit longer than it should have and, like I say, I am not sure what the technicalities were," Goss said to the Siya crew.

"It feels good being back here, I won't lie. You feel like you are wanted and cherished. The coach, the technical team and whole management have confidence in me and it feels good. Obviously there are some experienced players that have been added, especially at the back."

Returning to Sundowns meant that he would have had to compete with Ronwen Williams for a place in the starting line-up. While players are usually fired up to compete for a place in the team, Goss had to be honest to himself to know that he might not get ahead of the Bafana Bafana captain.

"Look, if we are being honest, Ronza got footballer of the season, so it was going to be hard to dethrone him. I wanted to stay in the national team and the way it made sense was for me to come back here."
