The story

As the 2024/25 season looms, Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have unveiled their colourful new strips for the upcoming campaign.

These kits will bring plenty of vibrance to the new Betway Premiership, with the technical sponsors of the aforementioned teams producing some bold designs.

A football jersey is also a fashion accessory and it's clear that PUMA (Sundowns), adidas (Pirates), Kappa (Chiefs) and Umbro (CT City) understand the current climate of going above and beyond for kit designs and matching it with a creative, well thought out kit launches.

Mamelodi Sundowns

Reigning league champions Mamelodi Sundowns were the first ones out of the block, with PUMA sticking to the club's traditional Home and Away colours.

Titled the "Rise.Rule.Repeat." kits, PUMA incorporated African-inspired patterns, with graphics of crowns and stars. As mentioned by PUMA, the kit design tells the Masandawana's story from its establishment (the Rise), with the Crowns representing consecutive PSL titles.

The Stars represent the men and women teams' success in the CAF Champions League (the Rule) and lasty, the unprecedented run of success which stands at 14 league titles and counting (the Repeat).

Orlando Pirates

The Buccaneers launched their official Home and Away jersey for the 24/25 season from adidas this week, an ode to James Sofasonke Mpanza, the "Father of Soweto", who was instrumental in forming Orlando Pirates in 1937.

As mentioned by the Soweto giants in a press release on their 2024/25 kit offering consists of a black Home kit and a Green Away.

The Home jersey, staying true to the club's heritage, showcases the iconic Orlando Pirates logo with a sophisticated black, white, and red color scheme, embodying a modern and stylish look.

The Away jersey celebrates cultural diversity with its vibrant seasonal green hue and features a special back-neck sign-off honoring James Sofasonke Mpanza.

Kaizer Chiefs

On Thursday, the Glamour Boys launched their 2024/25 strips at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena, marking their second season back with Italian sportswear brand, Kappa.

Chiefs' offering sees a yellow, striped Home jersey for Kaizer Chiefs — paying homage to the club's illustrious 54-year history with a design inspired by the club's previous and iconic jerseys as well as, cultural references to warriors' face paint.

The away jersey features a sleek black design furnished with geometric patterns that are inspired by the Kaizer Chiefs logo.

The pattern, as stated by Chiefs' press release on the new kits, is reminiscent of the longest feather from the chief's warbonnet, creating a pinstripe effect that symbolizes strength and unity.

This modern and stylish jerseys honour the club's history while showcasing a contemporary aesthetic:

Cape Town City's new kits by Umbro for the 2024/25 campaign continues to show the experimentation and creativity exhibited in their last two offerings from previous seasons.

City's Home strip is predominately blue with navy sleeves and yellow hues, with the jersey featuring a mazy, intricate tribal pattern. 

On the Away kit, Umbro opted for an off-the-wall but lush, purple, with black details including some hypnotic, horizontal stripes on the sleeves.
