SA Trio To Take Botswana Club To FIFA For Non-Payment

SA Trio To Take Botswana Club To FIFA For Non-Payment

VTM chairman Vincent Mafuta.

A group of South African players are considering to take Botswana Premier League club VTM FC to FIFA to fight their non-payment of salaries.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, South African players Lucky Mokoena, Rooi Mahamutsa and Sifiso Myeni were not paid salaries for May and this problem continued into June as well. They are now seeking payment for May and June, and it's been a difficult process trying to receive their payment.

Reports coming out of Botswana suggest that VTM are looking to sell their top flight status, which is a concern for the South African trio who are waiting to get paid. Indications are that Mochudi Centre Chiefs are going to buy the top flight status of VTM, as suggested by reports in Botswana.

Mokoena, a former Free State Stars player, has spoken to the Siya crew about how difficult it's been for them to get paid.

According to Mokoena, the club had promised to pay the players on July 20, but that did not happen. It's believed that players from Botswana have been paid, but foreigners are yet to get any bank notifications.

"The situation is that our contracts expired in June, but the we have not been paid for May and June," Mokoena said to the Siya crew.

"It's only the foreigners who have not been paid. The rest have been paid. If you send him messages, he does not respond to them. We've been patient for some time and it's almost three months. It means the last time we got paid was April and the league is going to start in September. We are foreign players and obviously the only way to deal with this is to go to FIFA. We've been patient and he does not even talk to us. We talk to him, but he does not talk to us."

Speaking to the Siya crew in June, chairman Vincent Mafuta had then stated that he would pay his players, but Mokoena now says they are still waiting.

Soccer Laduma contacted Mafuta again for comment but the VTM chairman had not responded by the time this report was published.
