Ex-England Star's Honest Thoughts On 2010 World Cup

Emile Heskey has provided his thoughts on the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

In an exclusive interview with SuperSport, a former England international provided his honest thoughts on the 2010 FIFA World Cup that was held in South Africa. He did, of course, mention the vuvuzelas!

When it comes to the international stage, Emile Heskey is no stranger to the pressures of representing the Three Lions at the world's biggest showpieces. Competing in four different major tournaments over the course of his 11-year England career, Heskey went to the 2000 and 2004 UEFA European Championship, and was also selected for his nation's World Cup squads in 2002 and in 2010.

Speaking exclusively on SuperSport Unplugged, the former Liverpool forward discussed his thoughts on England's EURO 2024 campaign, and also recalled his memories of playing for England. 

Here are Heskey's thoughts on the World Cup hosted by South Africa in 2010.

"I thought it was a fantastic tournament. I thought it was great to be over there," he said.

"I enjoyed every minute of it. My family came over and they absolutely loved it. I thought the stadiums were wonderful, I thought it was very loud with the vuvuzelas… a little bit distracting, but again, make it your own. It was fantastic. Yeah, 14 years ago! I loved it. It was great, I loved every minute of it.

"It was fascinating because we played in a place, like in the build-up to the games, and it was high altitude and I'd never really played in that and then the ball (the Jabulani) was going all over the place."

Heskey made an impressive 62 appearances for England, contributing to 17 goals across all competitions. 

The Premier League great also shared the story of how he found out he would be going to EURO 2000, and was full of praise for ex-teammate Wayne Rooney, whose performances for the Three Lions at EURO 2004 stunned the footballing world.
