PSL Club's FIFA Ban Overturned

PSL Club's FIFA Ban Overturned

After surviving via the end of season play-offs, KZN outfit Richards Bay have received a major boost ahead of the opening of the transfer window.

The Natal Rich Boys were slapped with a transfer ban after they found guilty of a breach of contract by the world football governing body FIFA, for having terminated the contract of Kenyan Ovella Ochieng and failing to pay him out.

Richards Bay were meant to pay the player R230 000 and the club has now finalised the matter, meaning they will be able to register new players for the 2024/25 campaign.

Richards Bay and Ochieng parted ways at the end of last season, with the player making less than 10 appearances for the club.

In a letter seen by the Siya crew from FIFA, it has been confirmed that the transfer ban imposed on the club has now been overturned. This will give head coach Vuzumuzi Vilakazi an opportunity to bring in new faces to bolster the squad, especially with star player Sanele Barns leaving to join Stellenbosch FC.

"We take note from the mentioned correspondence that the creditor, Mr Ovella Ochieng, has received the amounts due by the respondent, Richards Bay, in accordance with the decision passed by FIFA.

"As such, the South African Football Association is hereby requested to immediately lift the ban imposed on the respondent, Richards Bay, at national level. For the sake of good order, we would like to clarify that such order is exclusively related to the ban imposed in accordance with the decision and is without prejudice of any other ban that may be currently imposed on the respondent."

TS Galaxy were recently hit with a ban for money owed to Ivorian player Bernard Yao Kouassi. The club has to pay the player R1.8 million and chairman Tim Sukazi confirmed that they would settle it, as they want to register new players.
