The story

39-year-old defender, Clayton Daniels spoke glowingly about his former coach at Mamelodi Sundowns, Pitso Mosimane in a recent interview with GOAL South Africa.

Daniels has been without a club since parting ways with Cape Town Spurs in the middle of the 2023/24 season and the experienced campaigner is still without a club, with the new season likely to kick-off in early August.

The former SuperSport United captain worked under Mosimane at Masandawana, where the Mother City-bred hard man enjoyed a short-lived two-year spell.

Speaking to Goal, Daniels wasn't shy to hide his admiration and respect for Pitso, despite the defender not being in the four-time DStv Premiership winner's plans at Downs in the early 2010s.

"I have big respect for Pitso, I know we had our differences when I was at Sundowns, but still, football is football and you have to give credit where it's due. You know, at the time and space when I was there [Sundowns], we were in a transition/rebuilding phase. Coach [Johan] Neeskens was fired and when he [Pitso] came in, he changed things, it's part and parcel of the game.

"Even though we didn't see eye-to-eye most of the time, I still have respect for him. When it comes to football, I show respect and I don't take things personally. If you do good, you do good, I'm happy for you. Yeah, big ups to him. You can see the type of career he had at Sundowns and Al Ahly," said Daniels when asked about what it was like to work with "Jingles".
