Turkey Tour On The Menu For Chiefs?

Turkey Tour On The Menu For Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs players line up for moment of silence during the DStv Premiership 2023/24 match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on 02 May 2024

Kaizer Chiefs are set to enhance their pre-season preparations by adding Turkey to their European tour itinerary, which may already include Belgium and Holland.

The addition of Turkey comes with a proposed high-profile friendly against Turkish giants Galatasaray FC.

Siya sources close to the club have indicated there could be a strategic expansion of Amakhosi's pre-season destinations.

"They are still looking at Belgium and Holland but they have added Turkey to their list. You remember they wanted the recommendations of the coach? Maybe he is the one who advised them to also add Turkey to the countries they need to tour," said the Siya source.

"They are expected to play against Galatasaray there. Which is a big team and good for the preparations of a new season," the source added.

A second insider highlighted the club's intention to balance their pre-season matches between European and African teams.

"They are also expected to host a team from Tanzania. They are doing that so that they look at how the team performs against European opposition as well as African counterparts. At the moment everything is in the pipeline and is as good as done both for Europe and the Tanzanian team," the second source stated.

Amakhosi are also on the brink of announcing their new technical team, led by Tunisian mentor Nasreddine Nabi, expected over the coming week. This new leadership is part of the club's broader strategy to reverse their fortunes after a challenging nine seasons without a trophy.

Last season, the team's struggles culminated in a 10th place finish in the DStv Premiership, which saw them miss out on qualifying for the MTN8.

Chiefs' proactive approach to their pre-season planning, including high-calibre international friendlies and strategic leadership changes, underscores their commitment to turning around the club's recent fortunes. The inclusion of Turkey in their preseason tour, featuring a potential match against Galatasaray, alongside hosting a Tanzanian team, reflects a comprehensive preparation strategy aimed at exposing the squad to diverse playing styles and competitive environments.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
