Khanye: Nabi Needs To Sign 11 Starters & 7 Subs

Khanye: Nabi Needs To Sign 11 Starters & 7 Subs

Nasreddine Nabi, as the coach of AS FAR during the CAF Champions League 2023/24 match between Etoile Du Sahel and AS FAR held at Sousse Olympic Stadium in Sousse, Tunisia on 16 September 2023

A squad overhaul is suggested for Kaizer Chiefs as the club is expected to start afresh under a new coach in Nasreddine Nabi for the 2024/25 season.

Chiefs are understood to be waiting on Nabi to finish with his duties at Moroccan club AS FAR Rabat where he is set to be involved in a cup match this weekend, before his long-awaited switch to Johannesburg to begin a new tenure with Amakhosi.

The Tunisian tactician is believed to have already agreed a deal in principle with the Soweto giants where he is likely to be joined by no less than five people in his backroom staff, including French coach Fernando Da Cruz who is earmarked to be one of his assistants alongside Khalil Ben Youssef, among others.

Former Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye is concerned that Nabi might struggle to hit the ground running and he explains why.

"It's going to be difficult for Nabi to get the results instantly for Kaizer Chiefs. Does he know the club and its culture? Does he know South African football and understand the players? The way that team has been disjointed, it needs someone who has a better understanding of South African football, the players and the club's culture," said Khanye.

"Now that he will be there by the sounds of it, I wish for the club to support him by signing him the right players. Chiefs need a whole new team in terms of the players, and I'm talking about 18 new faces that will be in the match day squad, and that's 11 new players in the starting line up and seven substitutes. That's what is needed there for that team to be able to play beautiful football and produce results again. The rest of the players that are there need to be released in order for the club to start afresh. We recently had AFCON and Chiefs had no players in Bafana Bafana for the tournament and what does that tell you? People were mad at Hugo Broos when he said that no players from Chiefs deserve to be in the national team, and so far, he has been proven right, there is no quality there," concluded Khanye.
