Pirates Out To Sort Worrisome Position?

Thabang Matuludi of Polokwane City challenged by Happy Mashiane of Kaizer Chiefs during DStv Premiership 2023/24 football match between Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City at Soccer City on 18 May 2024

With his star continuing to rise, Thabang Matuludi has attracted interest from potential suitors, with Orlando Pirates among the clubs understood to have taken note of his impressive performances.

In only his first season in the top flight, Matuludi has forced his way into the list of the top right-backs in the league with his inspiring performances for Polokwane City.

The 25-year-old made a staggering 29 starts in the league, having missed only one match in April against Cape Town City.

With his contribution along with his teammates at Rise and Shine, Matuludi helped the Limpopo outfit to an eighth-place finish in the club's return to the top flight following their promotion at the end of last season.

Three months ago, it was reported by the Siya crew that Pirates had identified Matuludi as a potential transfer target, with a view of signing him for the 2024/25 season.

With the Soweto giants on course to finalising their squad for next season, having already parted ways with six players since the season ended, sources have indicated that Matuludi remains a target for the club.

In recent times, Bucs have had right-back as one of the worrisome positions in the squad due to injuries.

While Bandile Shandu, who has been a long-term absentee from the line-ups due to injury is understood to be making his way back, indications are that Bucs won't stop assessing their options to beef up the squad.

Sources have confirmed that SuperSport United's Kegan Johannes and Riaan Hanamub of AmaZulu are some of the players targeted.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC are another club that has shown interest in Matuludi, as per close sources.
