CT City Pay “Small Fee” For Mokotjo?

CT City Pay “Small Fee” For Mokotjo?

Cape Town City are believed to have paid a "small fee" for midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo to join them from Sekhukhune United, sources have indicated.

There is now a pending announcement of the veteran player being added to coach Eric Tinkler's squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

As reported by the Siya crew recently, it had become clear that the 33-year-old would be possibly leaving Babina Noko in the off-season following interest elsewhere.

The stumbling block around keeping him at Sekhukhune was on whether the midfielder, who returned to the Premier Soccer League in January last year to join Babina Noko on a short-term deal, would be able to wiggle his way out of their initial agreement.

Soccer Laduma has it on good authority that Sekhukhune still had a clause on the player's contract to extend his stay beyond June 30 by another season. However, the Siya crew was later informed the former FC Twente star was eager to return to Europe where he would then likely spend the remainder of his career.

But when City came knocking, it appears their proposal was good enough to get him on board, although the finer details are still being finalised.

"Kamo no longer wanted to play for Sekhukhune and was entertaining the idea of going back to Europe where he played for most of his career. I can tell you that Cape Town City have paid a small fee to get him on board – it wasn't about the money for them, but rather principle."
