Champs Real Madrid & Villarreal Play Out Eight-Goal Thriller

Champs Real Madrid & Villarreal Play Out Eight-Goal Thriller

Villarreal 4-4 Real Madrid

Champions Real Madrid's nine-game winning streak was halted after they surrendered a three-goal lead to draw 4-4 with Villarreal at Estadio de la Ceramica.

With the title already in the bag and the UEFA Champions League final still to play, Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti rotated his side, as Brahim Diaz, Joselu and Arda Guler led the attack.

Guler gave Los Blancos the lead on 14 minutes with a low strike in the box after latching onto a pass by Diaz.

Joselu doubled the lead for the visitors on the half-hour mark with a decisive header after a cross by Lucas Vazquez.

Alexander Sorloth pulled a goal back for Villarreal just before the break with a towering header from a cross.

However, Vazquez restored a two-goal cushion for Madrid a few minutes later from a one-on-one chance.

Los Blancos were 4-1 to the good on the stroke of half-time thanks to a goal by Guler, who completed his brace from an individual effort.

The Yellow Submarine were fired up from the break as Sorloth scored three goals in the first 11 minutes to make it 4-4 and had a hat-trick of four goals.

Barcelona 3-0 Rayo Vallecano

Barcelona secured second spot with a match to spare after thrashing Rayo Vallecano 3-0 at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Barca made three changes from their victory over Rayo Vallecano, as Joao Cancelo, Ilkay Gundogan and Raphinha, who joined Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal in attack, were recalled.

Blaugrana went ahead in the first three minutes after Lewandowski finished off a cross by Yamal in the box.

Pedri made it 2-0 for Xavi's charges with 18 minutes left with a shot from a rebound and sealed the result three minutes later and got his brace with a strike in the box after a pass by Ronald Araujo.

Atletico Madrid 1-4 Osasuna

Atletico Madrid were embarrassed in their last home game of the season after a 4-1 drubbing by Osasuna at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Raul Garcia broke the deadlock for Osasuna just before the half-hour mark and Aimar Oroz doubled their lead seven minutes from the break.

Alvaro Morata pulled a goal back for Atletico three minutes later but Garcia restored a two-goal lead for the visitors and got his brace just after the hour-mark.

Lucas Torro made it 4-1 for Osasuna two minutes before time with a first-time shot on the edge of the box.
