The German Football Association on Thursday announced its preliminary Euros squad, which includes Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and Arsenal's Kai Havertz.

Bayern Munich's attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala is also listed in Julian Nagelsmann's selection, as is returning Real Madrid superstar Toni Kroos.

There was controversially no place for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels, nor for Bayern duo Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry.

Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi, Niklas Sule and Timo Werner were overlooked too.

Below is the full 27-man prelim squad:

Speaking in a press conference, Nagelsmann admitted certain players he has discussed his decisions with are "understandably" upset.

"I had long talk with both Hummels and Goretzka. They're very disappointed as they're out of the list," he said.

"I tried to explain why they weren't included. It's understandable that they are sad."

German, who are set to host the tournament between June and July, are set to take on Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland in Group A.
