Nange After Chiefs Exit: I Am To Blame

SuperSport United midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange has taken blame for his stuttering first season at the club, admitting he should have done more to work on his fitness after leaving Kaizer Chiefs.

Nange has made 17 appearances in all competitions for SuperSport this season, but only eight of those have been in the starting line-up.

Due to a lack of game time at Amakhosi last season, Nange admits that he was not in good shape when he got to SuperSport and takes blame for not working hard enough on his fitness.

This has contributed to him not being able to get into the starting line-up on a regular basis, which is something head coach Gavin Hunt also spoke to the Siya crew about not so long ago.

"I will start from pre-season. Honestly, I was not in good shape, which I blame myself because I didn't play much at Chiefs. I was not in good shape, but the guys pushed me. That's why in most of the games I am not starting. I was supposed to do extra work because I didn't play. At the beginning of last season (at Chiefs), I got injured when the team was doing pre-season, so I had to leave and come back to Joburg because Kaizer Chiefs was having pre-season in Polokwane. From there, I didn't play much and I should have worked extra at home. It's water under the bridge and I look forward," the 32-year-old said to the Siya crew.

"I've played 17 games this season, but I come in as a substitute mostly. But I am happy with the progress and I am willing to work harder," Nange said to the Siya crew.

Nange has appreciation for the time he spent at Chiefs, but there is one thing he would have loved to achieve with the Soweto giants.

"I won't talk much about Chiefs, but I would say I enjoyed myself there. I wanted to win a trophy with the team. That's the only disappointment I can say I have, and I wanted to play more games. I didn't achieve that, but all in all it's a great team and a big club and I appreciate everything they did for me."
