Rulani Reveals Sundowns' Silver Lining In The Dark Cloud

Rulani Reveals Sundowns' Silver Lining In The Dark Cloud

One of Rulani Mokwena's surprise decisions in Mamelodi Sundowns' 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates turned out to be a 'silver lining in the dark cloud', according to the coach.

For the first time this season, Mokwena included Zimbabwean international Divine Lunga in the starting line-up, playing him alongside Mosa Lebusa at the heart of defence.

Not pleased with how his side performed against 10-man Pirates at Loftus on Saturday evening, Mokwena admitted that there were a couple of individual performances that he was impressed with, one of them being that of Lunga.

For someone who had not featured at all this season for Sundowns, Lunga gave a good performance, though his build-up play was a bit of a concern. Mokwena, though, believes that it's something he can improve on with time.

"If there is some form of silver lining in the dark cloud, it can be Divine. I think Divine was good today. It's difficult to play against a front three that's got not just speed and physicality, but also has very little defensive responsibilities.

"There was one or two good individual performances and Divine's performance was one of them. Stable, zero mistakes...okay a little bit difficult on the build up, but that will come with a bit more understanding when he understands what to do in certain schemes."

Lunga was linked with a move away from Sundowns during the January transfer window, but the opportunity he got on Saturday could give him hope that he will feature more in the second half of the campaign.
