Ofori Slammed For Costly Mistake

What's the story?

The Black Stars are seem to be as good as knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations after conceding two late goals against a valiant Mozambique side.

After the match, Ghana captain and keeper Richard Ofori was subject to some online ridicule for his blunder that led to a corner, resulting in Mozambique's equaliser.

Richard Ofori trolled online

After only managing two points in their three Group B matches at AFCON, the Black Stars are set to be knocked out of the group stages in the continental showpiece for the second tournament in a row.

Ghana, who are four-time winners of the tournament and have finished second on five separate occasions, have gone winless in their last six AFCON matches.

With English manager, Chris Hughton at the helm and the in-form talisman, Mohammed Kudus carrying Ghana's attack — there was plenty of hope for Ghana when they touched down in Côte d'Ivoire.

Despite being relegated down to being Orlando Pirates' third-choice goalkeeper, Richard Ofori not only claimed the number 1 jersey for the Black Stars, but was also appointed as captain. 

Unfortunately for the Buccaneer, he led Ghana to a nightmare campaign, topped off by his error when he was reluctant to claim a deflected header.

Ofori tentatively snatched at the ball, making contact with it and it lead to a corner for Mozambique. Atlético Madrid's Reinildo Mandava rose highest to head in the equaliser, leaving Ghanaians shattered after surrendering a two-goal lead that would have seen them progress to the next round.

Ofori's indecisiveness was one of the many talking points after the match, with some fans pointing out that he cost his country the valuable three points.
