Namibia Coach Reacts To Bafana Thrashing

Namibia's head coach Collin Benjamin has reacted to his team's heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bafana Bafana at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night.

Hugo Broos' men ran rampant at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium on Sunday to secure their first victory of the tournament

Percy Tau opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Namibia's Riaan Hanamub was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, before Themba Zwane doubled South Africa's lead 11 minutes later.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder then pulled off a stunning solo effort moments before the break, with substitute Thapelo Maseko adding a fourth in the 75th minute of the Group E clash.

"Congratulations obviously, first of all, to South Africa," Benjamin said, according to The Namibian

"They deserved to win. They went early with the lead with a penalty. Yes, VAR is modern soccer, but I think that was a bit unnecessary.

"That was not what has happen and obviously that killed the game, to receive a penalty like that in the 12th minute. I think after that we never really recovered.

"Our transitions were not so good. The second balls basically also, we couldn't manage that.

"It's definitely a learning lesson. I suppose it came at the right time because we still have a game against Mali. There's a lot to play for. The dream is still alive."
