Chiefs Interested In Highly-Rated Sundowns Player?

Kaizer Chiefs may have inquired about a Mamelodi Sundowns player, insiders privy to information have informed the Siya crew.

The player in question is midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize who's currently on loan at Sekhukhune United.

Siya sources have indicated that the 24-year-old could be on Chiefs' shopping list for either the January transfer window or for the end of the season.

"It's a tricky situation for Sekhukhune United. The boy just joined from Sundowns and now another big team is interested in him. What do you do in such a situation?" asked the Siya source.

"You throw him into the sky to fly with the eagles or you protect him to grow first? But at the same time every player wants to grow as fast as they can and play for a bigger club. At the moment it's just inquires so there is nothing much we can say.

"I know he is a great young player at 24 and he has a great future whether at Sekhukhune or at Chiefs," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source added that Chiefs may still be looking at bolstering their squad and Mkhize could be one for the future.

"I am not sure whether it's for January or at the end of the season but they have shown interest in him. The club has been looking at him since the start of the season so I am not sure what will happen at the moment. So let's wait until this window closes and see what will come up," the second Siya source explained.

The product of Sundowns' youth set-up joined Babina Noko at the start of the season and has so far played 10 DStv Premiership league games with a total of 818 minutes. He has also featured five times in the Caf Confederation Cup and twice in the Carling Knockout.

Prior to Sekhukhune, Mkhize was on loan at Chippa United and Cape Town Spurs when the latter were still known as Ajax Cape Town.

Soccer Laduma contacted both Chiefs and Sekhukhune United for comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
