On 1 January, the Bondy native will officially be allowed to negotiate a pre-contract with any club of his choosing as his current Paris Saint-Germain deal will have six months remaining.
A number of European giants will undoubtedly be looking to lure the pacey attacker away from the Parc des Princes as a consequence, and at the front of that line will likely be Los Blancos.
The Spanish giants were in a similar situation with PSG's all-time top goalscorer in 2022. He was also approaching free agency that year and while everything was believed to be prepared for his arrival in Spain, the prolific winger ultimately decided to extend with Les Parisiens instead.
As the two parties find themselves in comparable positions to 2022, the key difference this time around is that Los Merengues are not short of world-class attacking talent.
Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo Goes have all risen to prominence since Real's previous pursuit of Mbappe, and as a result, the club is not as desperate to sign him.
According to Diario AS, it is because of this that the record European champions have given the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner until 15 January 2024 to decide whether or not he will make his way to the Spanish capital at the end of the season.

The same report claims that Real feels this is an adequate amount of time to give Mbappe, and also allows them to find an alternative option in the event that he does not choose to make his way to Madrid.
