With Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos set to announce his preliminary squad for the Africa Cup of Nations next week, there will be concerns over the fitness of some players, particularly a Mamelodi Sundowns duo that has been out of action since the last FIFA break.
Broos will not have a lot of time to prepare for the competition, due to the fact the last DSTV Premiership matches of 2023 will be played on December 30 and 31.

Bafana are expected to go into camp on January 2, giving them little time to prepare for the competition which will start two weeks later in Ivory Coast.
A big concern for Broos is the injuries to Sundowns players Mothobi Mvala and Aubrey Modiba, who both sustained injuries while in camp with the senior national team last month for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
Both players have not featured for Sundowns since returning from international duty and Broos will probably be worried .
Indications are that Broos could include both players in the preliminary squad, before a final decision is made for the players who will represent the national at the competition.
Mvala has been a key member of Broos' squad, while Modiba fought his way back into the team with his fine form for the Tshwane giants both domestically and on the continent.

With PSL clubs involved in action until the final days of 2023, Broos will have his fingers crossed that players do not sustain injuries.
