Parker Thanks Bafana Legend For ‘Guidance’

TS Galaxy striker Bernard Parker threw it all the way back to 2009 and paid homage to South African football legend, Benni McCarthy. Check it out!

What's the story?

As Bernard Parker continues to make a miraculous recovery from a terrible injury, the veteran striker took time to shout out Benni McCarthy.

'Die Hond' was seen wearing Benni's Bafana Bafana jersey from 2009 and went on to share some memories of the two of them playing for the national team together.

Parker shows love to McCarthy

Bernard Parker showed his appreciation for the legendary striker Benni McCarthy on Instagram, wearing one of his Bafana Bafana jerseys from from over ten years ago.

Parker got to share a dressing room with McCarthy in the national team, featuring in the same squad for Mzansi's edition of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, a tournament that used to be a dress rehearsal for the FIFA World Cup.

The duo played under Joel Santana in '09 — with Parker sharing some memories of him and the former FC Porto striker playing for Bafana together.

At the time, McCarthy was setting the Premier League alight at Blackburn Rovers, while Parker was about to head to FC Twente in the Eredivisie.

The ex-Glamour Boy wore McCarthy's famous number 17 shirt and wrote this on his appreciation post for the Manchester United Forward's coach:

"Thank you for being my constant source of inspiration and guidance my brother @bennimac17," wrote Parker.

Katlego 'Killer' Mphela, who had an unbelievable FIFA Confed Cup tournament in 2009, hailed both Parker and McCarthy as "GOATS" in the comment section.
