Kaizer Chiefs have joined Orlando Pirates in the race for the services of rising star Elias Mokwana from Sekhukhune United, the Siya crew has been reliably informed.

It was revealed by the Siya crew yesterday that Mokwana has emerged as a transfer target for the Buccaneers who are believed to have been following his progress with a view to possibly sign him in January or at the end of the season.

Since joining Babina Noko in July last year from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Platinum City Rovers, Mokwana has made notable improvement with his inspiring performances.

The 24-year-old has made 17 appearances across all competitions in the current campaign and scored two goals and made two assists.

Mokwana's hard work was recognised when he was selected by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos in the 44-member preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda recently.

"Sekhukhune United are inundated with enquiries for the services of rising star Elias Mokwana. It looks like the club will find it difficult to hold on to the player at the end of the season as interest in him is growing," said the source.

"Kaizer Chiefs have become one of the latest clubs to show interest in the player. Pirates are also interested like you guys reported. But Chiefs are now keen to enter another deal with Sekhukhune following their agreement for Yusuf Maart at the end of last season. Expect talks to commence between the two clubs," the source added.
