Man City Drop More Points After Six-Goal Thriller

Man City Drop More Points After Six-Goal Thriller

Manchester City dropped for the second straight Premier League game after an entertaining 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

Result: Manchester City 3-3 Tottenham Hotspur

Date: 03 December 2023

Venue: Etihad Stadium

Man City made three changes following their win over RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, as goalkeeper Ederson, Jeremy Doku and Julian Alvarez were all recalled, with the latter two joining Erling Haaland and Phil Foden in attack.

Spurs had a perfect start after Heung-Min Son sent them ahead within six minutes from the first whistle with a strike past Ederson after a through ball by Dejan Kulusevski after a quick counter-attack.

However, Son cancelled out his own goal three minutes later unintentionally, after a free-kick came off his thigh and evaded shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario.

Pep Guardiola's charges gained momentum and forced errors from the visitors with a high press and Doku almost gave them the lead on the half-hour mark with a curling shot that came off the frame of goal.

However, Foden eventually made it 2-1 for City moments later with a cushioned shot at the near post after a cut-back by Alvarez.

The Citizens remained on the front foot and Alvarez came close to giving them a two-goal cushion ten minutes before the interval with a low strike that came off the base of the post after going through on goal.

City had a quick start in the second stanza as Bernardo Silva almost gave them a two-goal lead barely a minute from the restart with a strike tipped away from the bottom corner by Vicario.

However, Ange Postecoglou's men settled in the second stanza, kept their nerve building from the back and were rewarded on 69 minutes as Giovani Lo Celso levelled matters with a curling shot from the edge of the box that went in off the post.

Guardiola made an attacking change with 17 minutes to go, as Rico Lewis replaced Foden for fresh legs and Postecoglou made a defensive move five minutes later as he brought on Olivier Skipp in place of Lo Celso.

The game was on the edge and Jack Grealish restored the lead for City in the last eight minutes with a first-time shot in the box after a cut-back by Haaland.

Spurs had the final say as Kulusevski levelled matters in the last minute with a header at the back post that found the top corner from a cross by Brennan Johnson.
