Former Real Madrid fullback Marcelo has explained why he decided to reject the chance to reunite with ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo after he received an offer from Al Nassr.

The 35-year-old is the most decorated player in Los Blancos history, after winning 25 major trophies during his 15-year stay in Madrid between 2007 and 2022.
Marcelo parted ways with the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners last year, joining Greek giants Olympiacos on a free transfer, before returning to boyhood side Fluminense less than a year later.
In what has proven to be a dream homecoming for the Brazilian, the left-back recently helped the Brazilian team win the Copa Libertadores, but he has revealed things might have been different had he chosen to reunite with Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking on the Charla podcast, in quotes carried by AS, Marcelo admitted he discussed the potential transfer with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
"We talked about this a while ago," he said.
"I had some offers to move, from Al Nassr and others. But I needed to return here, to my roots."
Marcelo and Ronaldo became good friends during their time together in Spain, after initially forming a strong on-field connection down the left flank. The defender's son Enzo, meanwhile, still represents Real's academy.
