Sundowns Could Pocket Over R150m This Season

Sundowns Could Pocket Over R150m This Season

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to go through what looks set to be their most lucrative season yet, following their victory in the African Football League, with so much more to play for this season.

By winning the AFL, Sundowns bagged $4 million (R74.8 million), a big cheque for the club. They are already smiling all the way to the bank, but the Premiership champions will claim well over R100 million this season, with their participation in the CAF Champions League also playing a big role in this.

Sundowns have already qualified for the group stages of the Champions League and, should they finish third or fourth in the group, they would walk away with $700 000 (R13 million). One of the favourites to get through to the knockout phase, Sundowns have a good chance of reaching the quarterfinals of the competition yet again, which would guarantee them $900 000 (R16.8 million).

Should they reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, they are guaranteed $1.2 million (R22.4 million). Second place in the competition would come with a cheque of $2 million (R37.4 million) and winning the continental club competition comes with a cool $4 million (R74.8 million)

Sundowns are currently number one in the Premiership, despite not being in league action for over a month. They have four games in hand to second-placed SuperSport United, who have failed to take advantage of Sundowns' domestic absence. As things stand, Sundowns are favourites to win the Premiership, which comes with a prize money of R15 million.

After losing out in the final to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8, Sundowns received R800 000 for their participation in that competition, along with six other clubs. For getting knocked out in the last 16 of the Carling Knockout, Sundowns walked away with R550 000.
