As first reported by The Telegraph, Rashford's brother Dane was arrested in Miami, Florida, on charges relating to domestic abuse back on 20 October.

The charge was first registered as misdemeanour battery four days after his arrest, but has since been upgraded to a domestic violence case, with it believed he punched his girlfriend in the face after taking her phone to look at her text messages.

According to Miami-Dade County police records, Dane's bond of $1,500 (R27 600) was paid by his sister Chantelle Maynard a week after his arrest.

While the player representative is now out of jail, he is due to appear in court, with a hearing believed to be set for 27 November.

Dane is the head of DN May Sports Management, of which younger brother Marcus is a client, although it is said his other sibling, Dwaine, directly manages the footballer.

The news broke minutes before the Red Devils' took on Danish giants FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, in which United's No. 10 was sent off in the first half.

Despite Dane having to return to the US for his hearing later this month, it remains unclear if the Englishman has stayed in the country.

"The case is still active, at the moment I haven't been able to get hold of the victim," Daysi Vega-Mendez, the assistant state prosecutor for Miami Dade County, said.

"Our office is trying to get hold of the UK Embassy because we need permission to speak to the victim.

"I am not sure whether they are still in the United States or if they have left the country. I understand they were on vacation.

"Technically once you are charged, you are not supposed to leave the country. When a person is given a bond if they leave, they surrender that bond."
