A recent Mundial Magazine podcast showed some appreciation for a South African football legend, Doctor Khumalo.
Along with raving about his memorable performance in the 90's against Brazil, the four Mundial podcast hosts spoke about his days in the US, the meaning behind the "16v" nickname and compared his style of play to Real Madrid's in-form midfield star.

"Doctor Khumalo Will See You Now"
It's not everyday we see South Africa's football icons getting the respect they deserve from overseas sports publications, especially in Europe.
Doctor Khumalo did not have to play in Europe to be hailed as a footballing maverick and podcasters over at Mundial understood that when dedicating most of their latest episode to "16v".
Hosts Owen Blackhurst, Seb White, James Bird and Tommy Stewart refreshed their listeners memories on the great Khumalo.
They paid homage to the Amakhosi legend's time in Columbus Crew, when Major League Soccer was in its infancy, as well as his remarkable showing against a world class Brazil side back in 1996, where Bafana lost 3-2 in the Nelson Mandela Challenge.

The host admitted that he only became obsessed with Doctor and his name back in 2019 and went on to explain the meaning behind the "16v" nickname, a name given to Khumalo for his formidable endurance on the pitch, named after the engine of a vintage VW Golf, a hot ride in Mzansi during the 90's.
Khumalo's versatility in midfield and sensational skills were compared to what Real Madrid and England's 20-year-old midfield star Jude Bellingham, which gives younger fans a decent perspective on just how unreal the Khumalo was.
