Inter Miami Promise Messi Barca Send-Off

Inter Miami Promise Messi Barca Send-Off

Having left Barcelona abruptly in 2021, Lionel Messi has been promised by his current club that he can make a return to Catalonia to have a fitting send-off.

Messi's journey to Inter Miami has not been a straightforward one, with a controversial exit from the Catalan giants seeing him make the move to Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

His spell in the French capital can perhaps be best described as tumultuous, and he decided to call time on his brief stint at the Parc des Princes earlier this year, making a transfer to Major Soccer League a reality.

The Rosario native was rumoured to have had the opportunity to re-sign with the Blaugrana following the expiry of his contract in Paris, but instead of waiting for the Spanish club to get their financial affairs in order, he opted to sign with the Herons.

Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas has, however, insisted that while Messi may not play for the five-time European champions again officially, he would be more than happy to organise an exhibition match between the two sides at the Camp Nou for the Barca legend to have a fitting farewell from his boyhood club.

"Messi's departure from Barcelona was not to his liking, he could not say goodbye to his club that welcomed him as a child, and I think the circumstances [when he left] were not what Lionel wanted," the Spanish-born executive told El Club del Deportista.

"I gave him my commitment that I will do everything possible in the coming years to give him the opportunity to say goodbye to his fans in Barcelona.

"Inter Miami will go or we will do some kind of match."

While the Blaugrana were unable to re-sign the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner earlier this year, they are faring well with the current players at their disposal – they are unbeaten after eight games in LALIGA this season as they look to retain their league title.
