Jomo Reserves Special Praise For Chiefs Star

Jomo Reserves Special Praise For Chiefs Star

Of the 10 players Kaizer Chiefs have signed for this season, there is one that has caught the eye of Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono.

Amakhosi have invested heavily in the market to turn things around this season and their search for quality has taken them as far as South America, where they secured the services of Edson Castillo, a midfielder who has caught the eye of the legendary Sono.

Castillo has proven to be a key component in midfield for Amakhosi, with his ability to receive the ball from defenders in his own half and start play, as well as his knack to make late runs into the box which has seen him rattle the back of the net three times.

Sono has watched Castillo closely since he made his debut for the Soweto giants and he feels they have found a gem of a player who can play a key role in inspiring Amakhosi to a better finish in the Premiership than compared to last season.

"I saw Chiefs play two games and I strongly believe that they are dark horses, not to win the league, but to challenge Sundowns because they have signed some very good players. I saw them against Sundowns and Sekhukhune and they played very well," Sono said during the announcement of a club sponsorship with Jobe Foundation.

"The problem with Chiefs before was that they brought in all these players and they did not know where who should play. They have the central midfielder - Castillo. He is a different class. Now they have Mthethwa and they will be too formidable."

Sono spoke a bit more on Castillo and believes he can form a strong partnership with Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

"He defends when the team is under pressure, but he also gets into the box. He gets into the box without the box. He makes those blind runs into the box. He sneaks into the box and he gets in at the right time. He is a very good central midfielder. With him and Mthethwa, I see them being very strong. I think Chiefs are getting it right. It's just that supporters get frustrated quickly."
