Messi Opens Up On PSG Treatment, Makes World Cup Claim!

Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi has opened up on the treatment he received at Paris Saint-Germain after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

In his two-year spell in France, the former Barcelona forward struggled to connect with the Paris-based outfit and its fans, admitting as much following his free-agent switch to the United States earlier this year.

After a difficult first season at the Qatar-backed club, Messi found impressive form before the World Cup, but matters soured when he was unable to help the side progress in the UEFA Champions League.

Messi was among those singled out by supporters, who protested against the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner for a perceived lack of effort and desire, issues arguably made more complicated by Argentina's dramatic penalty shootout win over France in the final in the Middle East on 18 December.

During a recent interview with Miguel Granados on OLGA, Messi claimed to get no support from the club following the tournament in Qatar.

"With Kylian Mbappe things are good, like with everyone," he said.

"After (the World Cup) it was understandable, we were in a situation where we (Argentina) were world champions and it was our fault that they (France and Mbappe) weren't champions once again.

"I was the only player that wasn't recognised by his club compared to the other 25 Argentinian players."

Messi also touched on the irony of winning football's most prestigious trophy during the unhappiest times of his club career.

"It just happened that way. It wasn't as expected but I always say that things happen for a reason," he added.

"Although I wasn't happy there (at PSG), I became champion of the world there. Everything happens for a reason, if it had to be that way then..."
