CAF: More Money Made Under Motsepe’s Leadership

According to CAF, Patrice Motsepe has increased the money the organisation has been making.

Despite the recent controversy surrounding CAF and its broadcast rights holders, Africa's football governing body has revealed that revenue has grown under Dr. Patrice Motsepe's leadership.

Earlier this month, it emerged that African football's chief institution had terminated its contract with media conglomerate beIN Sports, with the Qatari-owned outlet being accused of breaching their contract.

The deal between the two entities is believed to be worth about $415 million (R7.8 billion), but with the broadcaster still showcasing the final legs of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, this perhaps leaves the door slightly ajar for the relationship to be mended.

CAF's communication's director, Lux September, has been reluctant to elaborate on the situation between the two stakeholders, but recently revealed that despite all the bad news being disseminated to the public, there have been major improvements with Motsepe at the helm.

September, via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, has stated that under the former Mamelodi Sundowns executive, there has been an 18% increase in television and commercial revenues, an $18 million (R342 million) increase in prize money awarded, and a 150% increase in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations prize money.

Motsepe's inauguration as head of African football has also seen the inception of the African Football League. Perhaps it too can become one of the South African's success stories after it kicks off on 20 October.
