The big reason why Kaizer Chiefs have not been able to win any trophy for the past eight seasons could have been brought to light by a strong stance from Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
Broos divided opinion after stating that no Amakhosi player deserved to be in his 23-man squad to face Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, based on the performances he has seen from the Soweto giants, going as far back as last season.

It took a strong coach like Broos to make such a statement but looking back over the years, since Amakhosi last won trophies in 2015, they have not had a large representation of players at Bafana.
Going as far back as the 2018/19 season (as former coach Steve Komphela largely inherited Stuart Baxter's 2015 squad), there has not been a healthy representation of Chiefs players in the Bafana squad or other national teams, as only Itumeleng Khune, Keagan Dolly and Sifiso Hlanti would have been considered regular Bafana players (apart from odd call-ups of other players) and with foreign players, only Khama Billiat represented his nation.
Bernard Parker, who was part of the last generation to deliver trophies at the club, says the Baxter era between 2012 and 2015 was successful because they had a lot of international players.
"The type of team that Stuart Baxter assembled it was international guys, we brought (Tsepo) Masilela, Khune was already an international, (Siboniso) Pa Gaxa…" Parker said on PrimeSportsWithMahlatse.
"We had about nine to 11 national team players, both local and across the border, that spine was strong, it was solid, that's what gave us success.
"At that time if you can remember it was maybe eight of us in the national team, now there's not even a single one (only one after Mmodi was called up as replacement for Zwane)," he said.

"I don't blame the selectors because you get selected according to performances, according to stats as well," he added.
Amakhosi may have to look at the type of players they recruit to go back to their glory days, as even in the seven signings they brought in the current transfer window, only Thatayaone Ditlhokwe can be considered a proper and regular player for his national team (Botswana).
Edson Castillo is also an international player but he has only started twice and has made two substitute appearances in total for Venezuela and his last appearance was in 2021.
