SAFA Breaks Silence On Pirates’ Controversial Goal

SAFA Breaks Silence On Pirates’ Controversial Goal

There has been an update on what can be expected regarding Orlando Pirates' controversial goal from their most recent match.

Against Cape Town City on Tuesday evening, the Mother City club's coach Eric Tinkler was left disappointed after the 2-0 loss in Orlando as he believed that the second goal should not have been allowed to stand by the match officials.

The mentor reiterated the importance of the video assistant referee (VAR) being introduced in Mzansi's topflight.

The goal in question was scored by Bucs midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi deep in the second half after red-hot Zakhele Lepasa had netted the first one early in the match.

Television replays seemed to show that the whole circumference of ball did not cross the line as the Citizens' goalkeeper Darren Keet reacted quick in attempt to stop it.

Contacted for comment, SAFA head of referees Abdul Basit Ebrahim confirmed to the Siya crew that the goal will be on the agenda in front of the review committee.

"You see what happens, each and every incident in a match is reviewed by the review committee," said Ebrahim, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

"So, that will definitely come up for review. I don't want to comment on something that has not been in front of the review committee yet because by that I would be going ahead of what our review committee should actually be doing," he said.

The Siya crew understands that the could be an outcome on the issue before the end of the week.
