Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has provided an update on the absence of Erwin Saavedra, the Bolivian star who was Sundowns' most expensive player at the time of his signing in 2022.

His transfer fee of $1.2m (±R18.5m) was the highest transfer fee paid by Mamelodi Sundowns and in South Africa, when he was signed from Bolivar in January 2022.
However, with just 10 appearances since his arrival in the country, Sundowns are yet to yield a return on investment on their Bolivian international.
It has been four months since Saavedra last donned a Sundowns jersey with his last appearance coming against Coton Sport in April this year, he featured for 27 minutes in a 2-1 win for the Brazilians.
But there has been no sign of the 27-year-old in Sundowns' matchday squad or training since then and now Mokwena has provided a crucial update on the player.
"Saavedra is still in Bolivia. He had to undergo surgery and with his rehabilitation he had asked that we allow him to do his rehabilitation in his home country, with some experts from Argentina that were recommended to him by former and national team colleagues, and we've done that," he told PowerFM.
"He'll be back soon so that he can complete the last phase of his rehabilitation and then we'll take it from there. [He's] a very good player and people shouldn't be fooled. He's a player that is worth the investment we are making," he added.
