Molefe Suffers Setback, But Still In Chiefs’ Plans

Kaizer Chiefs have not released the information to the public, but the Siya crew has it on good authority that young goalkeeper Bontle Molefe has suffered a fractured hand and will be sidelined for a few weeks.

It has emerged that the injury comes at the wrong time when the junior international is currently being considered the club's third choice keeper – ahead of veteran Itumeleng Khune!

Soccer Laduma reported during the off-season that Molefe, after putting pen to paper on a new three-year contract with the Glamour Boys, was considering a loan option elsewhere to get regular game-time.

Amakhosi's decision to retain Khune's services for another season – his last with the club he joined when he was only 13 – suggested Molefe would be further down the pecking order.

The Soweto giants have two other more established goal minders in Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma, so with Khune around, it meant Molefe, an academy product, would be overlooked.

However, since the return of Rainer Dinkelacker to help beef up the technical team and Chiefs' goalkeeping department alongside Aubrey Mathibe, the German mentor is understood to be a big fan of Molefe.

"I think internally, Bontle is considered the Chiefs third-choice goalkeeper. That is why it became difficult to negotiate a loan deal even though the window remains open because should anything happen to Petersen or Bvuma, he is next in line," said a source privy to information at Naturena.
