'Billiat Did Nothing, Castillo Is What Chiefs Needed'

'Billiat Did Nothing, Castillo Is What Chiefs Needed'

Kaizer Chiefs have signed many new players for the current campaign including Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo, who is hoped to be the player to transform the club to start winning things again.

In recent times Amakhosi were hoping the likes of Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly would be the go-to player to break up defences and create goals out of nothing. Billiat has since left the club after his contract expired, while Dolly is still at Chiefs and is working his way back to fitness.

It is still early into the new season and it seems Castillo has already won the hearts of the Chiefs faithful as he capped a good performance with the winning goal in the MTN8  quarter-finals against Cape Town City the previous weekend.

Unfortunately for him, he didn't score in the 1-0 loss away to TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership on Sunday.

Former Amakhosi defender Derrick Spencer has told Soccer Laduma that it's about time people stopped talking about Billiat and started talking about Castillo, arguably their biggest signing in years.

"Castillo is a very good player. He looks relaxed on the ball and brings the team together. He is a quality player and this is what the team needed," Spencer told Soccer Laduma.

"You can not compare him to Khama (Billiat). He did nothing for Chiefs. We are actually better without him.

"Tell me what did he (Billiat) do since he joined the team? Nothing. He has been the best signing not only for this season but in the past few years.

"The club did a good job in bringing him in and looking at the way he is playing, he will help the team a lot. His quality will rub off on the other players which is what we needed in the team," Spencer told Soccer Laduma.
