Chiefs’ Truter Interest Revisited, R2m Required?

Chiefs’ Truter Interest Revisited, R2m Required?

Brandon Truter, coach of Sekhukhune United FC, during the DStv Premiership 2022/23 match between Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United FC on 13 May 2023 at Orlando Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs remain open to beefing up both the playing personnel and technical team for the 2023/24 season, with Brandon Truter still one of the candidates for the Soweto giants, the Siya crew has been reliably informed.

In edition 1326 of Soccer Laduma, it was revealed that Chiefs had been keeping tabs on Truter, who is currently the head coach of Sekhukhune United and doing well.

At the time, Amakhosi had been yet to demote Arthur Zwane to an assistant role and replace him with Molefi Ntseki who had been the Head of Technical and Youth Development Academy.

It was around the time when Chiefs were also linked with highly rated Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi.

However, the club decided on Ntseki as the head coach and with Zwane and Dillon Sheppard assisting him for the start of the new season.

Having completed their pre-season after playing competitive matches in Tanzania and Botswana where they lost to Young Africans and Township Rollers respectively and now getting ready for their first match of the new season this Sunday against Chippa United, Truter remains an option should the club decide to make further adjustments to the technical team, according to sources.

"Brandon Truter has been closely monitored by Chiefs and he impressed the club with his run of last season as the coach of Sekhukhune United. He is someone that the club would like to have in their technical team in the near future," said the source.

"He is a highly rated coach who has done so well in his career in a short space of time. First coach to take Sekhukhune to the final of a cup competition (Nedbank Cup), and he will also be taking the team to Africa (CAF Confederation Cup) this season. This is the same coach who guided Swallows to promotion in first attempt and that shows how capable he is and some people out there are taking note," the source added.

"Chiefs continue to follow his progress and they might be aware that he is on the last year of his contract with his current employers. There have been enquiries since the end of the season but the main reason he couldn't move was the buyout clause on his deal. There's a R2 million buyout clause on the coach's contract," the source concluded.
