Ntseki: Maybe It's Because I'm South African

Kaizer Chiefs mentor Molefi Ntseki has responded to the naysayers who were not convinced upon his appointment as the club's head coach.

It's been just under a month since it was announced that Ntseki would be taking over the reins at Amakhosi to replace Arthur Zwane who now serves as his assistant coach.

His appointment was not met with much fanfare as a faction of supporters questioned whether or not he was the right man for the job – given his underwhelming stint as Bafana Bafana coach.

But Ntseki says he has become used to the criticism from supporters, as he experienced it since first becoming a coach 25 years ago.

"I think it has happened to me ever since I started coaching 25 years ago as an amateur coach, having won the league, there will always be people who have their opinions in terms of your approach, how you do things, the type of players you choose," he told journalists at the launch of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership at Multichoice City in Randburg.

"So, I think in the past 25 years I've gone through that so I was not surprised. But the most important thing is that I've got a job to do, which has to be done to the best of my ability. If my player-centered approach has worked for me in the past, it will definitely work for me in the position that I am – the same thing happened with Bafana Bafana so that's why I'm saying it's nothing new.

"Maybe it's me being South African, because South Africans have got little love for oneself, so hopefully overtime we outgrow the negativity in us and about us and become a very positive nation."
