Experienced England midfielder Jordan Henderson is expected to join Steven Gerrard's Al Ettifaq in the coming days after the Reds and the Saudi Pro League club found common ground on Wednesday.

It was first reported last week that the 33-year-old had agreed personal terms with Al Ettifaq, but his proposed switch was delayed as the two sides battled to strike a deal over a transfer fee.

Henderson's salary is expected to increase from £200 000 (R4.6 million) a week at the Reds to around £700 000 (R16.1 million) weekly in the Middle East.

The midfielder has been strongly criticised by certain sections of Liverpool's fanbase ahead of his move, having, for a long time, positioned himself as an ally of marginalised groups.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that Henderson will join Al Ettifaq for £12 million (R277.5 million), with Jurgen Klopp having reportedly given his captain his blessing over the transfer.

Henderson has represented Liverpool on 492 occasions since his debut in 2011, winning eight trophies in the process.
