New Chapter Looms For Nhlapo As He Leaves SuperSport

Versatile player Siyabonga Nhlapo has left SuperSport United after a six-year stay with the club, bringing an end to a successful stint with Matsatsantsa.

SuperSport are busy working behind the scenes, letting go of players while also bringing in new faces ahead of a season which will also see them competing in the CAF Confederation Cup after they finished third in the DSTV Premiership last term.

Despite being one of the key men, both on and off the pitch, Nhlapo's time has officially come to an end.

"I am on the list of players who have left the team and I am available. I am training on my own at the moment. Initially, I was on a three-year contract, with a two-year option to extend. I served those five years and last season was a bonus year (the sixth season). It's not anybody's fault, but we didn't see that coming," Nhlapo said to the Siya crew.

Nhlapo was one of the more experienced players in the SuperSport side and gave the club an option of playing in three different positions. The former Jomo Cosmos and Bidvest Wits player played mostly as a right back at the club, but was able to slot in as a centre back whenever the club needed someone to play there. While he hardly ever played in midfield, Nhlapo has an ability to play as a number six and his versatility may have come in handy in the Confederation Cup, especially with the departure of Keenan Phillips at right back, to Moroka Swallows.

Nhlapo, 34, is open to taking a lower package than what he was on as he is determined to keep playing in the PSL.

The other players who have left SuperSport are Thamsanqa Gabuza, Aubrey Ngoma and Zukile Kewuti.
