Transfer Update: Mayele

Transfer Update: Mayele

With Fiston Mayele linked with a move away from Tanzanian giants Young Africans this off-season, here is the latest on his future.

According to Tanzanian outlet Mwana Sport, the 29-year-old attacker is being very respectful despite his wish to leave Dar es Salaam during this transfer window.

This past season, Mayele enjoyed a prolific campaign with Wananchi as he grabbed Golden Boot honours both in the Tanzanian Premier League and the CAF Confederations Cup, as he helped his side secure a domestic treble.

While the Democratic Republic of Congo international achieved success with Yanga in 2022/23, the striker is still keen on exploring a new adventure. The pacey attacker has garnered interest from the Middle East, north Africa as well as in the DSTV Premiership, but even as his current club ponder whether to sell him or not, the forward is not pushing for an exit.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the record NBC Premier League champions had offered Mayele a new contract, but he rejected it as he holds out for a move to a new club. The likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Zamalek and Pyramids have all been mooted as possible suitors for Mayele.

While the seven-time capped DRC international is keen on a move away, the same report claims that the player is not keen on burning his bridges with Yanga in the event that his next move does not pan out as planned. Mayele has one year remaining on his current deal and the decision to let him go ultimately rests with the 29-time Tanzanian champions.
