Zamalek Handed 'Transfer Ban' Over Unpaid Fees For Star Player

Zamalek have officially been handed a transfer ban by FIFA after the Egyptian giants failed to pay the fee for one of their star players.

The 2022/23 campaign has not been a particularly enjoyable one for the White Knights as they have been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

From their president serving a prison sentence, to the several coaching changes, the north African outfit have been shrouded in controversy throughout the season.

Now the five-time African champions will serve a transfer ban because of unpaid dues to Primeira Liga side Sporting CP for the services of star winger Shikabala.

The veteran attacker initially made the move to the Portuguese giants in 2014, but after only making a single appearance for the Lions in the 18 months he was there, he returned to his boyhood club Zamalek.

The Egyptian side are believed to have agreed on a €570 000 (R11.7 million) transfer fee to sign back the 32-time capped Egypt international.

According to KingFut, the figure was supposed to be paid in instalments but after missing several deadlines, the club have now been hit with their second transfer ban in as many seasons and now also owe the Lisbon based side $1.5 million (R28 million).

The letter FIFA sent to the Egyptian Football Association did not specify for how many transfer windows the 14-time league champions would be banned for, but only that it was in relation to the deal for Shikabala.
