Chiefs Approach Mngqithi?

Kaizer Chiefs could unveil a new coach before the end of this week and Soccer Laduma has picked up sensational information that it is certainly not former Yanga double treble-winning coach Nasreddine Nabi. The Siya crew has been reliably informed that negotiations with Nabi appear to have deadlocked, largely due to the Tunisian's insistence that he wanted his own technical team.

The Amakhosi hierarchy, on the other hand, believe Arthur Zwane has a bright future at the club but for now needs someone more experienced to work alongside him. The Soweto giants are, for that reason, uncomfortable in dumping their former winger and have therefore gone back to their original target.

News that has landed on the Siya crew's desk is that the club is lining up former Golden Arrows and current Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi… and have approached his camp.

It was initially thought that Mngqithi was free to leave at the end of this month, but his camp pointed out that in truth, the gaffer's contract at Chloorkop is only due to expire in June 2024. However, Siya sources have indicated that the Glamour Boys feel he could be a perfect fit and have approached his handlers with the view to try and negotiate a release from the Brazilians and negotiate an amicable termination of his contract.

But for the deal to go over the line, it would require a willingness from Sundowns to let go of a man who has been instrumental in their trophy success during the last eight years with both Pitso Mosimane and now Rhulani Mokwena. Since the dramatic technical changes in which Mokwena was elevated to head coach assisted by Steve Komphela while Mngqithi became "Senior Assistant" coach, the former schoolteacher has been urged by several of his peers to move elsewhere.

Walter Rautmann actually claimed that Mngqithi was too good a mentor to be relegated to the shadows and urged him to step out and present his expertise elsewhere than be confined to the shadows as an assistant.

But Mngqithi has remained loyal to Chloorkop, and even when AmaZulu FC made concerted efforts to lure him back to his native KZN province, he quietly went about his duties in Midrand.

Would you prefer to Mngqithi to Nabi at Chiefs?
