Barcelona-linked Lionel Messi has reportedly made a certain request to the Saudi Arabian team that are hoping to sign him ahead of the 2023/24 season.

According to Goal, the 35-year-old's camp held a meeting with Al Hilal on Monday to ask that they postpone their contract offer for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner until 2024.
Messi is believed to be favouring a return to Barcelona in the coming window after his father, Jorge Messi, recently said that a move back to the Spanish giants is his son's preference after his departure from Paris Saint-Germain was confirmed this past weekend.
This comes amid rumours claiming that the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion's family are also pushing for him to re-sign with the Catalan club.
Al Hilal are said to have tabled a world-record contract proposal worth €500 million (R10.3 billion) a year for the Argentine, a deal that would see him earn more than Al Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The delegation that held talks with Messi's entourage was reportedly taken aback by the request, and made it clear the offer would not be the same next year.
Messi's father, meanwhile, was spotted meeting with Blaugrana president Joan Laporta in Barcelona on Monday to discuss a potential return for his son.

The Argentine parted ways with his boyhood side in 2021 as a free agent after scoring a staggering 672 goals and assisting a further 303 strikes in 778 appearances.
