Venue: Cairo International Stadium

The Red Devils were without first choice goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy, as coach Marcel Koller gave Mostafa Shobeir the nod between the sticks while Percy Tau continued in the attack.

Wydad, meanwhile, were without midfielder Abdellah Haimoud due to appendicitis as they looked to end their five-game winless run in the Egyptian capital against Al Ahly.

The home side took the game to Wydad from the onset, but it was the visitors who carved out the game's first chance on 14 minutes as Bouly Sambou forced Shobeir into a save after 14 minutes.

however, Al Ahly were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute after the referee deemed Sambou to have handled, however after a check on the Video Assistant Review (VAR) monitor, the referee reversed his decision after the ball hit the player's head.

Sambou continued to cause to trouble up front as he did well to knock the ball down for Yahya Attiat-Allah who took one touch before volleying straight at Shobeir in the box.

The breakthrough arrived just before the interval as Hussein El Shahat got to the byline and did well to pick out Tau, who planted a header into the bottom corner.

The visitors came out firing in the second half in an attempt to bag an equaliser, as Aymane El Hassouni had an effort saved by Shobier on 52 minutes before he squandered another chance three minutes later.

However, Al Ahly doubled their just before the hour mark as Kahraba bagged his sixth goal of the tournament with a close-range finish, with El Shahat picking up another assist.

Tau continued to cause trouble down the right flank as he raced to the byline and cut inside before teeing up Kahraba, who unleashed a first-time strike that was saved by the Wydad shot-stopper.

However, Wydad did pull a goal back in the 86th minute when Sambou deflected a cross into the path of Saif-Eddine Bouhra, who sent a fine finish into the far corner to give his side some hope heading into the second leg.
