Earlier this week, it was reported that the Major League Soccer outfit and LaLiga champions Barcelona were in coalition to get the forward signed in a joint effort to circumvent the Catalan giants' financial struggles.
According to Mundo Deportivo, however, the MLS franchise wants to sign the seven-time Ballon d'Or solely for their own benefit.
It was presumed that Messi would re-sign with Les Parisiens after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but his relationship with the French club has been strained tremendously in recent months, and he now reportedly wants to return to the Blaugrana.
The Spanish side, though, has monetary issues that have so far prevented them from making an official offer to the playmaking forward.
This seemingly leaves Al Hilal in the lead to land the football icon, and while Miami will likely fail in trying to match their offer, the same report suggests that the US club will offer the Argentina international a 5% ownership stake in the club on top of his wages.
The Florida-based team have reportedly also offered the decorated forward the chance to be an ambassador for the 2024 Copa America, which will be held in the US and is a tournament Messi hopes to play in.
