According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blues will once again be big spenders in the off-season transfer window.

The west Londoners have just had their worst Premier League season in 29 years, and co-owner Todd Boehly is keen to remedy the situation and see the club head back to Europe by adding more reinforcements to the squad.

On Monday afternoon, Mauricio Pochettino was announced as Chelsea's new manager, and the same report claims that the Argentine tactician and the club are already conceptualising their plans as far as the looming window is concerned.

At the top of the club's priority list is signing a midfielder, and the English giants have reportedly identified Sporting CP's Manuel Ugarte as their No. 1 target.

One of Chelsea's big-money incomings this season was Enzo Fernandez. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is the most expensive signing in the Premier League's history, but the Argentine has so far failed set the English top flight alight and the two-time European champions reportedly want to get the best out of their record transfer by also bringing in defensive midfielder Ugarte.

Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Aston Villa are also said to be interested in signing the Uruguay international, and given his rumoured €60 million (R1.2 billion) release clause, those seriously contemplating making a move for the 22-year-old will likely have to do so quickly.
