Chiefs Could Be Put Off By R10m Mayele Price Tag

Kaizer Chiefs have been looking at strengthening their strikeforce for some time now and they were already linked with Tanzania based DR Congo striker Fiston Kalala Mayele of Young Africans FC.

Mayele previously had a trial at Naturena, and the latest information from different sources reaching the Siya crew is that Amakhosi are interested in the Yanga striker. However, the stumbling block could be the high asking price from the Dar es Salaam based side.

A source very close to the Tanzanian club told the Siya crew that Yanga could be looking at 1.2 Billion Tanzanian Shillings (equivalent to approximately R10 million).

The source noted that Yanga are not expected to compromise on that figure as Mayele has one year remaining plus an option to further extend his contract.

"He is highly valued by the club. He can not come cheap. Chiefs really want the player but the main problem has been Yanga's asking price," the Siya source said.

"They want R10million and nothing less than that. But Chiefs have been negotiating for about R6million or there abouts. Hence the deal is dragging," the source said.

A different source added that Yanga would not necessarily have a problem letting the 28-year-old former AS Vita Club striker leave but they don't want to lose him for free.

"They want to make sure he moves now with some money coming in. His contract ends in June 2024 and soon he could be in a position to sign a pre-contract and they don't want that to happen but at the same time they are asking for a big amount for his transfer.

"However, it's understandable as they have invested a lot in him. So, R10 million seems nothing to them," the other Siya source added.

When contacted for comment, Yanga President Hersi Ali Said could not confirm the amount the team wants.

"Neither Kaizer Chiefs nor Orlando Pirates nor any other team from South Africa has made official contact with me regarding our player so far," Said responded.
